Electronic Refunds Are Now Mandatory
Earlier this year, the IRS started phasing out paper refund checks. Refunds will be delivered via:
- Direct deposit to bank accounts
- Digital wallets (e.g. PayPal, CashApp, Venmo, Chime, etc.)
Note: Taxpayers without bank accounts can open one with FSBT at any of our three branches – we’re happy to assist.
Electronic Payment Options
Tax payments can now be made online using:
- IRS Direct Pay
- Pay1040.com
- Fed.acipayonline.com
Note: Electronic methods are faster, safer, and reduce fraud risk. You don’t need to send in a voucher if you pay by card or bank account. IRS will refund any overpayment unless you owe a debt on your account.
Remember, the IRS will NEVER call, text, or contact you via social media to request payment or threaten you with legal action. If you receive any suspicious messages:
- Do not click links or respond
- Contact us at 651-351-3760 if you need help verifying
- Check your IRS account at irs.gov for any official notices
Create Your IRS Online Account
- An IRS Online Account gives you secure, 24/7 access to:
- View notices and transcripts (helpful for retrieving prior year info)
- Check payment history and balances
- Download key tax documents (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
- Set up or modify payment plans
- Request and manage your Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN)
- Make payments
Note: This tool is especially helpful for self-employed individuals, retirees, and anyone who wants to avoid long IRS waiting times.
Protect Your Identity with an IP PIN
The IP PIN is a six-digit code that prevents fraudulent tax filings using your SSN. It’s:
- Free and renewable annually
- Available to all taxpayers (not just victims of identity theft)
- Accessible via your IRS Online Account
Note: The IRS s increasingly relying on technology, and protecting your identity is more important than ever. Visit irs.gov to apply for your IP PIN.
